Doraleh Oil Terminal (DOT) – Jetty Piling Clean

Djibouti – February 2021

Sovereign Global’s Commercial Diving Branch – SG SALVAGE – has been appointed to clean all 192 Subsea Jetty Piles supporting the Doraleh Oil Terminal (DOT) in Djibouti.

The Commercial Dive Team know this terminal well, having replaced all 454 anodes protecting the piles from corrosion in November 2019.

Doraleh Oil Terminal (DOT)

Working in high-explosive hazardous environments such as Oil Terminals requires highly skilled divers with specialist equipment to ensure the risk of any incidents is negated.  Prior to commencing the operation, SG SALVAGE completed their usual comprehensive Project Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work and Emergency Response Plans for the specific work involved, including High Pressure Systems, Equipment Safety and Operations in Oil & Gas Explosive Environments.

Work commenced on the project on 6 February 2021 with SG SALVAGE’s team of IMCA certified commercial divers and their specialist cleaning equipment including two electric High Pressure Cavitation Cleaning Systems.  With extreme marine growth of up to 20cm on each pile, the hi-tech cavitation systems can remove the growth at water pressures much less than traditional high pressure cleaning systems, therefore greatly reducing the safety risks to the divers.

This latest task adds to the wealth of experience SG has gained since 1999, providing vital Commercial Diving Services to the maritime industry including Wreck Removal, Salvage, Underwater Surveys (RINA and ABS class certified), Hull Maintenance, Inspection & Cleaning, Jetty/quay Construction & Maintenance, Seabed Surveys and Search & Recovery Operations.

Previous successful tasks completed by SG SALVAGE are:

  • Recovery, tow & re-sinking of 2 x 200-ton barges from Djibouti’s northern Tadjourah Port
  • Recovery, tow & re-sinking of one 250-ton barge from Djibouti’s DMP Terminal
  • 26 Vessel Hull Cleans
  • 23 In-Water Surveys including IACS Class Approved Inspections
  • Search & Recovery operations for lost anchors, chains and crane heads
  • Environmental protection & recovery operations, including moving coral from areas under construction and replanting them in safe areas

SG Salvage is a brand name of Sovereign Global Djibouti SARL and is the only IACS Class Approved Commercial Diving Company registered and situated in Djibouti. We are approved by ABS and RINA as recognised external specialists for In-Water Survey and our integrated Quality Management System is certified to ISO 9001:2015.
